Blu Ray

Blu ray is accelerating in the marketplace replacing the very popular dvd format which has already elevated the house entertainment experience greatly.

Blu ray disc is the latest optical disc format. This format was created to make it possible to record, write and playback high-definition video (HD), and in addition to store vast amounts of data all at home. Using blu ray technology gives 5 times the storage space of dvds and can also store 25GB on one layer disc and 50GB on the dual layer disc.

Comparing Blu Ray with DVD

When comparing blu ray and dvd the primary difference in the simplest of terms is the fact that blu ray offers audiences a far more effective, high-definition experience.

The image quality of blu ray is far better as it produces a resolution of 1920x1080 or (1080p), where dvd is fixed to a much smaller 720x480 or (480p). For us the viewers, it means the details within the image is a lot more clearer and crisp, with a distinct contrast and lots of vibrant colours.

The audio quality is also far greater as blu ray, uses technology like Dolby TrueHD along with other similar formats and it means that it'll be much like hearing precisely what was recorded within the studio, if you possess the audio system to fit it. Dvd though does not have this capability to duplicate the audio soundtrack to this very high standard.

While dvd still provides a special features section, the blu ray answer is a lot more easy to use, because it enables menus to appear, even if the primary feature is being played. Additionally blu ray allows viewer to watch picture in picture as well.

The Downside to Blu Ray

While of course all the features of blu ray are far superior to dvd they come at a price. Blu ray players cost a lot more than dvd players, as well as blu ray discs are going to cost more. As with all new technology though the price is coming down all the time the more advanced things progress. A good advantage to buying a blu ray player is they can still play normal dvds.

At the present time the range of titles available is still quite low for blu ray but this is increasing all the time the more popular it gets and the more people are looking to enhance their viewing experience. A dvd will load in the player a lot faster when compared to a blu ray disc which takes to load about 20-90 seconds but that’s not really a problem as it’s well worth the wait.

Blu ray technology is enhancing very rapidly and will without doubt make dvd obsolete because of the way in which home theatre has been targeted towards us watching hd viewing.
