Blu Ray Discs
A group of leading consumer electronics manufacturers developed blu ray discs. This format gives a much better quality to the normal dvd format which is due to the way that they are read. Blu ray discs use a shorter wavelength than normal dvds to store data and therefore allows much more data to be stored.
As well as being able to store much more data blu ray discs also enables recording rewriting and playback of high definition video. Because of the amount of information that can be held the picture and sound quality is far more superior.
There are some films that have already been released on blu ray discs and new films are being planned also to be released in blu-ray format. Eventually blu ray discs will most likely replace the normal dvd although dvd will probably not be discontinued for some time. Production to begin with will be quite low as with anything new as in the latest mobile phone or computer but eventually you will be able to buy cheap blu ray discs.
This means therefore that to begin with blu ray discs will most likely be quite expensive. But as more are produced due to more demand the cost should then go down. Especially as at some point everyone will have to change to blu ray dvd discs once dvd is phased out but not until HDTV are more widespread.
